The wheels for the 2013 Dias Festival were set in motion this week when the first meeting of the organising committee was held at the Mossel Bay Municipality. The 2013 Festival will be held from 31 January 2013 to 3 February 2013.
The Santos Caravan Park will again be the main arena for the event although events are planned at the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club, De Bakke parking area, Extension 23, Marsh Street and KwaNonqaba.
Like the successful festival that was held at the beginning of 2012, the festival’s theme will again be “Where Cultures Meet.” Entry will again be free so that as many as possible people can attend the various festival events.
It will start with an evening gala concert on 31 January 2012 and again include an air show in which the South African Airforce will participate with some of their most exciting aircraft on display. The South African Police Service has also confirmed their participation, which will include displays, exhibitions and the SA Police band.
A full programme of live music will be presented in the main arena. Some of South Africa’s top performers have already expressed an interest in coming to Mossel Bay for the festival. The festival will also include a street parade and a fun walk
The Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club will stage sailing, diving and angling events at their premises, while a motorsport gymkhana will be held at De Bakke parking area and a burn-out at KwaNonqaba.
A skateboarding event is being planned, while the organisers are also looking at a surf competition. A junior and senior surfing competition and rubber duck races are also in the planning stages.
The festival will again be co-ordinated by the Mossel Bay Municipality to market Mossel Bay and bring different cultures together. However, anyone who us interested in becoming involved or who has good ideas to make this another bumper festival are invited to attend the next meeting at the Mossel Bay Municipality at 11:00 on Monday, 12 November 2012.
