RATIO BETWEEN BLUE AND BLACK REFUSE BAGS TO CHANGE

The Mossel Bay Municipality will, in response to requests by community members and a subsequent investigation, soon start to issue more black and less blue refuse bags for the removal of household waste.

The Municipality has for some time now issued an equal number of black and blue bags, namely 13 of each per pack, to households in February, May, August and November annually.

The rationale for issuing an equal number of blue and black bags was to encourage recycling but recent experience has shown that, although good progress is being made with recycling, regular waste volumes exceed recyclable waste. As a result, the ratio between black and blue bags will be changed to 18:8 when the Municipality’s current stock of refuse bags runs out.

Households needing more blue bags for recycling can contact the waste recycling contractors, Green’s Waste, at telephone (044) 695-1138 or the Waste and Pollution Department at the Municipality at (044) 606-5143.
