Members of the public are invited to give
their inputs on the IDP and Budget Review 2024/25 during public consultations
hosted in all wards between 4 and 20 September 2023.
WHAT
IS THE IDP?
WHAT IS
THE LIFESPAN OF AN IDP?
An IDP has a lifespan of 5 years. At commencement of a five-year term, newly
appointed Councils accept an IDP for the following five years.
However, in
terms of legislation a municipality must review its IDP annually to ensure that
development goals and service rendering remain relevant to the needs of the
community. The IDP review process further promotes
co-ordination between local, provincial and national government and assists in
attracting additional funds.
WHAT IS THE
PURPOSE OF PUBLIC PARTICIPATION?
The purpose
of current public consultations is to afford residents and stakeholders an
opportunity to make inputs towards the review of the 2024/25 IDP and budget
documents.
Whilst inputs
may not always be immediately achievable as suggested projects may be budget
dependent, it is vital that residents engage in this public participation
process as part of active citizenry and holding local government accountable.
WHAT WILL THE FORMAT OF PUBLIC PARTICIPATION BE?
Due to the continued impact of loadshedding on public participation, the
Municipality has in the past year explored with various platforms or formats. Initial
attempts to use platforms that were used during COVID-19, proved not ideal as the
dynamics differ. During COVID-19 online platforms were boosted, whilst
loadshedding often impacts negatively on online platforms specifically. Noting
the stage in the IDP cycle, the Municipality will explore with walk-ins. Venues
will be open on the relevant dates from 15:00 to 18:00, during which members of
the public may walk-in and provide written inputs. Municipal officials will be
available to assist community members who cannot read or write.
WHERE AND WHEN WILL PUBLIC
PARTICIPATION OCCUR?
