OVERVIEW

Waste management is defined as: “The collection, transportation, and disposal of garbage, sewage, and other waste products. Waste management encompasses management of all processes and resources for proper handling of waste materials, from maintenance of waste transport trucks and dumping facilities to compliance with health codes and environmental regulations”.

Core proposed sub-functions within the mSCOA framework include:

  • Recycling.
  • Solid waste disposal.
  • Solid waste removal.
  • Waste Management and Pollution Control
  • Street cleaning.

Furthermore, pollution control includes Air Quality Control, Noise Nuisance Control as well as enforcement of the Public Nuisance by-laws. Apart from the abovementioned the unit is the business licensing authority for Mossel Bay.
